About the Council
Councillors deal with people from all walks of life many of whom would like to make a difference. Money is often required to make a difference but time and commitment are also important.
Pam Dudson, who has carried out the duties of the Town Clerk since 1986, is necessarily something of a ‘jack of all trades’! From applying for grants, taking minutes, keeping the accounts, preparing budgets to writing up the specification for the Christmas illuminations and helping decide where they should go the position she holds constantly presents challenges that are both varied and interesting.
There are eighteen councillors on the council and at present the council is fairly active, having initiated some very worthwhile projects – such as acquiring mobile CCTV equipment and making it available to residents if they are having any problems that it could help with.
Nowadays, town councils have to consult on many issues to make sure they are meeting the needs of the electorate. Where facilities are required for the town, in most cases grants or other funding have to be obtained to purchase them.
It is important that councils adhere to the law when using their powers or carrying out their duties, another role of the Town Clerk is to help ensure that this happens.
In 2010 Pam obtained her CiLCA Certificate which allows Councils to apply for Quality Status.
Winterton’s parks are sometimes problem areas because of the vandalism and drinking that occurs. Fortunately, we have a good park keeper who is very dedicated and who removes the litter and glass every day and checks to make sure there are no hidden sharp objects where the children of Winterton might be playing.
Winterton Council exists to serve the community and are happy to listen to any concerns or suggestions from the people of Winterton.
