Winterton Neighbourhood Officer
A Message from Amanda Barnett, P.C. 2108
Burton & Winterton Neighbourhood Officer (2nd February 2009)
Dear Resident

I have been in my new role as your local neighbourhood beat officer for 3 months now. You may have seen a more visible presence in the town recently as the Neighbourhood Team are using Winterton Police Station as their base. However, the station is not staffed at all times and you should continue to report incidents using the 0845 60 60 222 non emergency telephone number.
We are very lucky in Winterton that we do not suffer from a high crime level. Over the winter months Winterton has been relatively quiet. That said, please be vigilant and report any incidents which may occur. Please do not think you are wasting our time because if you don't report things we are not aware there is a problem.
There have been two recent incidents involving children being asked to get into a vehicle and offered sweets. All the local schools have been informed and the Neighbourhood Policing Team have carried out 'Stranger Danger' assemblies with the children. Please be advised that these incidents are very rare but make sure you know where your children are and who they are with.
With this in mind, the safety of children is a priority. All primary age pupils have been given the use of a hi visibility tabard, generously donated by the Winterton & District Lions. Unfortunately a lot of the children are not wearing them. Please encourage your child to use the tabard for their own safety.
Recent parking issues have also come to our attention. These include parking on Bus Stop Bays which are marked on the road in yellow paint. It is an offence to stop/wait on these and can attract a £30 fixed penalty notice. Likewise, vehicles parked on yellow lines, vehicles causing obstructions, vehicles parked facing oncoming traffic at night, vehicles parked on the footpath/verge. The list is endless. Please swat up on the Highway Code if you are unsure. You don't want a £30 ticket as a reminder.

Police Community Support Officers
We are the Police Community Support Officers for the Burton Stather and Winterton ward. We cover Winterton, Winteringham, Whitton, West Halton, Coleby, Alkborough, Thealby , Flixborough, Normanby, Burton upon Stather and all areas in between. Winterton is the largest town on our patch and, as such, we spend a large proportion of our time here.
We are charged with looking after various issues in our area including dealing with antisocial behaviour, liaising with victims of crime, following up incidents reported to us and providing a visible police presence.
We also attend a wide selection of meetings, ranging from local neighbourhood watch groups to parish councils and resident associations to identify the issues that really matter in the community.

We also enjoy working with younger people in our area and regularly visit local schools and youth clubs. We actively encourage people to talk to us and tell us of any concerns or issues they have in their area, in order that we can act and make a difference. We also work in partnership with other agencies, such as North Lincolnshire Homes and Safer neighbourhoods, to help improve the quality of life for all members of our community.
