Winterton Neighbourhood Officer
A Message from Amanda Barnett, P.C. 2108
Burton-Upon-Stather & Winterton Neighbourhood Officer (March 2011)
Dear Resident

During the winter months the Winterton policing team have been kept busy not only with the bad weather but more importantly crime in our area.
We have had two dwelling burglaries in Winterton, one on Tuesday 11th January on Wesley Close, the other on Monday 7th February on North Street. It is unknown if these burglaries were connected but at the present time it is believed not. Whilst dwelling burglaries are few and far between in our area we need to be vigilant at all times. Whilst away from the home, some simple precautions could prevent you from being the next victim. Leave a radio switched on, the sound of voices may put a burglar off. At night time leave a light on in a front room and again the radio, a burglar doesn't want confrontation.
Of course, if someone is determined to get in, they will. Have a look around your property and see where you can make security improvements. If you have good neighbours, tell them when you are out so they can keep a close eye on things. As I mentioned earlier, these incidents a rare and Winterton is a very low crime area so please don't lose sleep over it but if you do see anything suspicious don't be afraid to ring the police at the time it is occurring, it's better to be safe than sorry.
On Sunday 30th January nuisance motorcyclists were spotted in Dragonby. Police were notified and several officers attended. Four motorcycles were seized and 12 people were issued with section 59 warnings for anti social use of a motor vehicle. This type of warning is recorded on the police national computer and if caught again the offender risks losing their vehicle and being dealt with by the courts. It is an offence to use a motor vehicle on land without permission which causes anti social behaviour. You annoy - We destroy!
Over the winter months we have dealt with several offenders for poaching. The majority of these are travelling criminals and more often than not they are hare coursing with dogs. In Winterton alone, fifteen such individuals have been reported for summons and will be dealt with by the courts. This is big business for them as often there are huge amounts of money at steak through betting on which dog will kill the hare. Humberside Police are cracking down on this type of illegal activity and their behaviour will not be tolerated. If you see a suspicious vehicle or people on land with dogs who don't appear to be just walking them, ring the police on 0845 60 60 222.
